What are Nova Scotia Statutory Holidays?

Nova Scotia Statutory Holidays are provincially legislated holidays in which employers must pay their staff more than their normal rates. As a result of this staffing rates for events taking place on statutory holidays will be double the normal rates.

Statutory Holidays

  • New Year's Day
  • Good Friday
  • Canada Day
  • Labour Day
  • Remembrance Day*
  • Christmas Day

*Remembrance Day

Remembrance Day has its own legislation unrelated to the Nova Scotia Labour Standards Code and the Nova Scotia Retail Business Designated Day Closing Act. Employees who work on Remembrance Day must recieve a paid day off of work at a later date. As a result staffing rates at the Bella Rose Arts Centre will be double the normal rates. It also has a few unique additional rules that must be adhered to.

Restrictions on Performances and Alcohol Sales

Alcohol Sales and performances can not take place until after 12:00 PM on Remembrance Day.

Period of Silence

All operations must be temporarily suspended for 3 minutes starting at 10:59 am on Remembrance Day.
